From Ads to Infrastructure: How Mohali Plans to Spend Its Biggest-Ever Budget
The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) is making headlines with its ambitious ₹220 crore budget for 2025-26—a 30% jump from last year’s ₹170 crore. The blueprint, set for approval next week, promises a mix of infrastructural upgrades and smarter revenue streams.
Revenue Revolution
A whopping ₹27.5 crore is expected from advertisement taxes, while property tax collections are projected to hit ₹60 crore. The MC is also banking on ₹100 crore from the Punjab Nirman Fund and ₹10 crore from municipal cess on electricity.
Where’s the Money Going?
- Essential Services: ₹75 crore for salaries and operational costs.
- Infrastructure: ₹58 crore for road repairs, new tube wells, and park upgrades.
- Green Initiatives: Funds allocated for waste management plants and solar streetlights.
Citizen-Centric Projects
Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu emphasized priorities: “We’re focusing on sustainable growth—better roads, cleaner parks, and efficient waste systems.” The budget also includes smart city pilot projects, including sensor-based water supply monitoring.
Challenges Ahead
Critics question the reliance on ad revenue, given market volatility. However, MC officials remain optimistic, citing new commercial zones and stricter tax compliance. For residents, the proof will be in pavement repairs and reduced garbage piles.
